Weddings

Please contact our church office if you would like more details on weddings.

Qualifying Connections

If you don’t live in our parish but you still wish to marry at our church because it has special significance for you, then it is necessary to prove a valid connection with our church from the list below.

Either you or your fiance(e) must have:
•           been baptised in our parish, or
•           been prepared for confirmation in our parish, or
•           at any time lived in our parish for a period of at least 6 months, or
•           at any time regularly attended normal church services in our parish church for a period of at least 6 months, or

One of your parents, has at any time:
•           lived in our parish for a period of at least 6 months, or
•           regularly attended normal church services in our parish church for a period of at least 6 months, or

One of your parents or grandparents:
•           were married in our parish

If you do not live in our parish and cannot meet any of these qualifying connections, then it would be possible for you to be married in our church if you attend our weekly Sunday morning service for a minimum period of 6 months. However, you are legally entitled to marry in your own parish church so you can enquire there. We will be happy to help you to contact your local church if you’re not sure which one it is.

Banns and Licences

Banns of Marriage are an announcement of your intention to marry and a chance for anyone to put forward a reason why the marriage may not lawfully take place.

Banns will be read out in church for three Sundays during the three months before the wedding. This is often done over three consecutive Sundays and we also take this opportunity to pray for you too. If both or either of you do not live in our parish, then Banns will also need to be read in the parish church where each of you live, as well as at our church. There is a small charge for this (£36 - £54 per church)

If you wish to be married with less than three weeks' notice, or if either of you is not a British citizen, then a Marriage Licence is always required, and we can explain more if this applies to you.

If you are under the age of 18 (but no younger than 16), then you must also have your parents’ consent to marry.

Divorce & Remarriage

If you are considering remarriage in church then we ask you to download the form below and answer the questions on it. When you have completed this form please send it to the Vicar, using our church office address, and we will get in touch with you to arrange a meeting.
